Odesa LTS (February 2025) - DRAFT

To be discussed and approved by the TSC ahead of the release

EdgeX 4.0 ("Odesa") is the project's third LTS release and will initially run alongside version 3.1 ("Napa") while that version completes its LTS term (until November 2025). 

Versions of 4.0 of the following items are included in the 4.0 LTS Release and covered per the terms of the EdgeX LTS policy:

• The core, supporting and security services within edgex-go

• Application Functions SDK in Go-Lang

• Application Functions SDK in Python

• App service configurable

• Device Service SDK in Go-Lang

• Device Service SDK in C

Open

For completeness, the following items are not included in the 4.0 Release:

• The EdgeX Device Services which are considered reference services for EdgeX users

• The EdgeX GUI and app-record-replay service which are considered development tools.  EdgeX will make every effort to make sure a version of these tools exist to work with the LTS releases.  However, this these are for development purposes and therefore not covered by the LTS policy.  Use at your own risk

• Third-party services used by EdgeX (for example PostgreSQL, OpenBao, MQTT, Nginx) are not covered by the LTS policy (except integration issues)

Per LTS Policy, Odesa will be supported for a period of 2 years (until February 2027) unless otherwise stipulated by the EdgeX TSC.  Note: services or components that are moved under LTS during the time of the LTS will be supported until the end of the Odesa LTS period (February 2027).
